Everyone is going through their own battles, but we don't need to (and shouldn’t) do it alone! When we come together to ruck for a good cause, we help tackle issues bigger than ourselves.
Rucking has been an integral part of Tammie's life for years. The co-founder of Lion City Ruckers enjoys the social fitness because she finds it a hub for community-building and a metaphor for facing life's challenges: one step at a time and with others. Tammie strongly relates to Care Corner's campaign theme of uplifting others as her rucking community has raised funds for various causes in the past.
Now, as a stroke survivor fighting breast cancer, her drive to ruck for charity has only grown stronger. When she received her cancer diagnosis last year, what helped her most was thinking of something bigger than herself. "So, I said to myself, 'Okay let's go do a ruck for a good cause and raise awareness,' because it's not just about you. This helps you get out of your own head, and out of your own way and therefore the journey ahead becomes less frightening."
Despite the battles she has endured, she always keeps a smile on her face and manages to find ways to stay positive. She shares that, "if you spend time being grateful, there is no room for bitterness. When you're grateful, you're more willing to accept help." This mindset has allowed her to excel in her many roles as a single mother, daughter, general manager, and cancer fighter while also doing what she can to give back to others.
Tammie encourages people to participate in rucks to bond with others as everyone is going through their own battles and it’s important to avoid isolation. Her journey is a powerful reminder of resilience, gratitude, and that anyone can do their part in helping others even in the face of personal challenges.
