In the beginning, when Amanda* came for counselling sessions at Care Corner Counselling Centre (CCCC), she didn't speak a word.
She would sit in silence, weighed down by memories and trauma she could not yet identify. But her counsellor Wun Chee stayed by her side.
A Second Chance, Made Possible by Subsidies
Due to difficult experiences with counselling in the past, Amanda had stopped seeking help for some time. As a young student then, finances were also on her mind.
She almost didn't want to try again, if not for one thing - the subsidy. Care Corner Counselling Centre offers highly-subsidised counselling sessions for individuals and families facing mental health distress.
Amanda shared, "Just knowing that there is the subsidy helps."
Subsidies of mental health and counselling services - made possible by donors like you - gave her a chance to begin again and take her first steps toward healing.
A Safe Space to Heal
Over time, with patience and care, the sessions became a safe space for Amanda.
"In the first 2 to 3 years in Care Corner, you (her counsellor) stepping one step back and allowing me to just come as I am helped me feel a lot safer. You were very ready, and willing and spontaneous to just go with whatever I brought up in every session," Amanda said.
Then, everything clicked in one session. From then on, Amanda felt safer and more comfortable to dig deeper into the root of her trauma and past issues.
"In that session, I felt like you came into my world. I felt like you were beside me and you came into my place of trouble, my place of hurt and just be there."
At Care Corner, we focus on trauma-informed care to create safe, compassionate spaces where individuals feel truly seen, heard and supported. We journey alongside our service users to explore their stories, understanding their pain and move towards hope and healing.
From Beneficiary to Social Worker Helping Others
Today, Amanda has become a social worker, dedicating her life to helping others find the same healing she once sought.
"Because of you (her counsellor), I can be the social worker to help many more people in need," said Amanda.
